The recycled plastics market in Europe is driven by a combination of legislation and an unremitting shift towards sustainability. EU rules suggest that 95% of cars must be recyclable by 2010 and many local authorities now insist that wheeled bins have to be manufactured from materials containing a minimum of 65% recyclate.

Technical compounding and recycling specialist Luxus has strengthened its technical team with the appointment of Sarah Willis as laboratory manager. Willis has a degree in chemistry and was previously with titanium dioxide supplier Millennium Inorganic Chemicals.

Luxus has enhanced the range of services available through its technical centre, adding £100,000 of new equipment, tooling and staff to further improve its capability to develop cost effective compounds. Each year several thousand tents are abandoned at festivals and end up as landfill but myhab, a new eco friendly, reusable and recyclable habitat manufactured from recycled plastics and waterproof cardboard, has pitched in to solve the problem.

Targeting environmental and cost efficiency benefits, Honda is using high recycled content PP copolymers; custom developed by specialist compounder Luxus Ltd, for interior parts on its cutting edge design Civic 3 and 5 door models. Luxus is one of a few companies in the world to have recycled content polypropylene material approved by Honda for use on colour matched interior components.
PR 06 – New flame retardant PP innovation announced by Luxus at PDM 2008 – 15th April 2008
Luxus announced the development of a new halogen free flame retardant polypropylene copolymer with VO rating. The compound has been formulated to retain more of the physical properties of the base material by using fewer additives compared to other VO halogen free systems.
