PR 01 – Luxus unveils new structure with industry focus at RWM07 Stand 21 – July 27, 2007
Luxus, one of the UK's largest independent plastics recycling companies, producing 28,000+ tonnes of high-quality recycled compound per year, will use RWM07 to unveil a new structure designed to enable focus on its key market sectors and in-house technical support facility.
Three distinct operating units have been formed under the Luxus brand:
- Prime and recycled thermoplastic compounds
- Recycling - plastic scrap - Bin 2 Bin scheme - Oil tank recycling
- Testing, analysis and technical support
Identified through a restyled logo featuring different colours for each division, the changes come into effect immediately. As the company has grown these three operational areas have increased both in scope and size. Although they have always integrated well the reorganization is part of a strategic plan that will eventually see the divisions housed in new purpose built facilities at its three acre site in Louth, Lincolnshire.
Recycling is major growth area for Luxus. Perhaps this is because unlike some other recycling companies it does not always charge for collecting recyclable materials. Today Luxus’ expertise covers closed and open loop Bin-2-Bin schemes, oil tank recycling, the recycling of exhibition carpet, film and rigid plastic materials.
Central to the success of its recycling business is a huge investment in new processing technology earlier this year that is now paying dividends. New techniques developed now enable a greater diversity of different types of plastics products to be recycled more efficiently. With an on site dedicated technical resource the company is now able to evaluate, formulate, test and successfully introduce additives to materials to modify polymers, thus converting recycled product into fully specified compounds suitable for a wide range of applications.
Luxus is also working with Local Authorities to respond to problems associated with the handling, collection and reprocessing of kerb side glass containers and old style plastics dustbins that are being replaced with wheeled bins. Closed loop no charge schemes are in place, all aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to carbon neutral strategies.
Chocolate lovers in the UK will be pleased to know that Luxus is engaged in the fight against counterfeit sweets. The company is recycling polycarbonate chocolate moulds and the security of these items is critical to prevent them finding their way to unscrupulous dealers who reuse them and sell fake chocolate as original goods. Protecting the integrity of branded goods is a massive problem for global manufacturers and Luxus believes it is the only company in the UK trusted to undertake this work.
