PR 13 – Recycling service offers revenue stream for local authorities – November 2008

Local authorities nationwide are showing increased interest in a closed loop recycling service that pays up to £100 per tonne for ‘end of life’ wheeled bins and kerbside collection boxes.

Developed by recycling and waste management specialist Luxus Limited, the ‘Bin 2 Bin’ scheme was established some years ago and has been refined to add value. It offers local authorities the benefits of a sustainable purchasing option, lower waste costs and reduces the volume of waste going to landfill.

‘Bin 2 Bin’ closed loop recycling, involves shredding and granulating wheeled bins and boxes, melting and mixing the granulate with additives and colours ready for processing into new bins and boxes.

The service includes collection, or acceptance of delivery, of used HDPE bins and PP boxes. Following inspection and processing details of the waste recycled is confirmed in a report that a local authority can use for invoicing.

Comprehensive guidance on how authorities can maximise the value of this waste is provided in a series of specially created documents that can be downloaded from a dedicated recycling section on the company’s website: www.luxus.co.uk
