Health Safety and Environment Manager Emily Ferrier has graduated, having completed her NEBOSH Level Six diploma.
A ceremony was held at University of Warwick, allowing her to fulfil an opportunity she thought may have passed her by, in a field she is incredibly passionate about.
“I never thought I’d get to wear a cap and gown, having opted for the apprenticeship route at the start of my career,” Emily said, following the proud celebration.

Born and educated in Louth, she joined East Lindsey District Council on a health and safety apprenticeship from college, and was fast-tracked into full employment. In total Emily spent six years there, but realised further development was stifled by a settled team.
Having joined Luxus to develop in the sphere as part of the company’s succession planning, she continued her professional studies supported by the business, while taking over from David Stilgoe-McCombe on his retirement.
She has been on regular block release sessions in Birmingham since January last year, leading to three exams and coursework assessments, before the award.
Of her role, and the support received, she said: “I feel like an advocate. I have the knowledge behind me, and I’m now the person here to prevent people having accidents. No-one should go to work and get injured, no-one deserves that. I’m the source of advice and the strategy to prevent that from happening.
“Every day is challenging and rewarding, and while it was very daunting to start with, moving from a role in a local authority to being responsible for health and safety for a manufacturing company, I feel so lucky to have had such great support. Everyone has been really friendly, happy to help and offer advice.”
After an all-consuming period of professional development, Emily is now learning to play ice hockey.
