World Environment Day is an opportunity to celebrate the progress being made towards a more sustainable future whilst inspiring the next generation to play their part. This year, Luxus was proud to support Lincolnshire County Council's World Environment Day event at the Lincolnshire Showground, where hundreds of primary school pupils discovered how recycling, sustainability and the circular economy can make a real difference.

Over two engaging days, around 400 pupils from 17 schools across Lincolnshire took part in interactive activities designed to encourage environmental thinking and foster an understanding of sustainability from an early age. The event, organised as part of Lincolnshire County Council's Let's Talk Rubbish education programme, brought businesses, local authorities and environmental organisations together to demonstrate how we can all contribute to protecting our environment.

As a local employer, sector leader and environmentally focused business, we believe that understanding the importance of effective recycling is the first step towards creating a truly circular economy. Throughout the event, our team enjoyed speaking with pupils about polymers, plastics recycling and how materials that have reached the end of one life can be transformed into high-quality products for another.

Seeing children discover that recycled plastics can have multiple lives as everyday products was incredibly rewarding. Their curiosity, enthusiasm and thoughtful questions showed just how valuable hands-on environmental education can be in helping young people understand the importance of responsible resource management.

Alongside sharing our knowledge, we wanted to make sustainability memorable. Our popular 'Hoop a Wheelie Bin' game kept pupils entertained, whilst reinforcing positive recycling messages, with plenty of sweet prizes awarded to successful competitors.

Every child who visited our stand also received a packet of flower seeds to take home. It was a simple way to encourage families to continue the conversation beyond the event and a reminder that even small actions can have a lasting environmental impact. Whether planting flowers to support pollinators or recycling correctly at home, every positive choice contributes towards a healthier planet.

As a business that has been helping customers maximise the value of plastics for more than 60 years, we're passionate about sharing our knowledge and encouraging future generations to think differently about materials and waste.

Events such as World Environment Day give young people the opportunity to explore careers in sustainability, engineering, recycling and manufacturing while learning how businesses across Lincolnshire are working together to build a more sustainable future.
